THE PROJECT IS SUPPOSED TO START NEXT JANUARY, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN FUNDING QUESTIONS FROM THE START. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S ERIN HEGARTY PRESS, THE UNIVERSITY’S INTERIM PRESIDENT FOR ANSWERS. BACK IN OCTOBER, UBER REGENTS QUESTIONED WHERE THE $450 MILLION WOULD COME FROM, BUT THEY STILL UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE PROJECT. NOW THEY’RE SET TO CONSIDER THE NEXT STEP THIS FRIDAY. THE IDEA OF THE MEMORIAL STADIUM RENOVATION PROJECT IMPROVE THE FAN EXPERIENCE, CONNECT ALL FOUR SIDES AND REPLACE THE SOUTH END. BUT WHERE DOES THE PROJECT STAND FINANCIALLY? WE’RE TALKING TO LOTS OF, UH, SUPPORTERS OF HUSKER ATHLETICS AND DONORS ABOUT THE PROJECT. REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT. UM, BUT AT THIS POINT, WE’RE NOT REALLY WILLING TO WE’RE NOT AT A PLACE TO TALK ABOUT WHERE WE’RE AT FROM A FUNDRAISING PERSPECTIVE OR, YOU KNOW, WE’RE REALLY FOCUSED ON THE PHASE ONE, WHICH IS WHAT THE BOARD APPROVED. DOES KETV INVESTIGATES, OBTAINED UNIVERSITY EMAILS IN A PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST, WHICH MIGHT GIVE SOME CLUES AND USE INTERIM PRESIDENT CHRIS GABORIK LED AN EMAIL ON FEBRUARY 14TH. TEAM, CAN YOU HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHAT IS DRAGGING ON TOO LONG? THIS IS THE FIRST I’VE HEARD OF ANY ISSUES. THE SUBJECT LINE MEMORIAL STADIUM AGREEMENTS, HE TELLS KETV IT WAS ABOUT EXECUTING A CONTRACT. THAT’S PART OF PHASE ONE DESIGNS. WE NEED TO GET THEM SIGNED AND SO WE CAN GET OUR PARTNERS PAID IN A TIMELY MANNER. ANOTHER EMAIL, THIS ONE FROM JANUARY, SHOWS OPTIONS TO RELOCATE THE COMPUTER SCIENCE CENTER BELOW THE SOUTH STADIUM CABARET SAYS THE NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IS EVALUATING THE STADIUM RENOVATION PROJECT. I THINK MY JOB IS TO GIVE HIM THE TIME AND SPACE TO EVALUATE THAT PROJECT SO AND THAT’S HE’S HE’S JUMPING IN BOTH FEET INTO THAT FIRE, GETTING UP TO SPEED ON IT. NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. HE TELLS ME THEY’RE FOLLOWING THE PROCESS LAID OUT BACK IN OCTOBER AT FRIDAY’S MEETING, REGENTS ARE SET TO CONSIDER CONTRACT WITH HDR. THAT’S PART OF THE ONGOING PHASE ONE WORK. IT NEEDS APPROVAL AS A CONTRACT WORTH MORE THAN 5 MILLION. WE’RE JUST FOLLOWING THE PROCESS WE LAID OUT IN OCTOBER, EXACTLY AS WE SAID, NEBRASKA ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TROY GANNON SAYS IN A STATEMENT ON THE STADIUM PROJECT. QUOTE, RIGHT NOW WE’RE DOING OUR DUE DILIGENCE ON QUOTE. HE SAYS IT’S IMPORTANT TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE, INCLUDING FANS AND DONORS, TO UNDERSTAND THE RATIONALE, TIMELINE, COSTS AND BENEFITS. RO

It’s important for us to hear from everyone with a stake in this conversation, from our coaches, staff, fans and donors to the Board of Regents and administration. Any decision we make will be based on whether it helps us win.
