Swansea City are preparing to step up their transfer efforts over the final few days of the window, but Paul Clement insists no new arrival will join the club without his approval.

With just six days remaining until the window shuts, the Swans are on the look-out for further reinforcements after bringing in Sam Clucas, Roque Mesa, Tammy Abraham and Erwin Mulder.

A deal for Wilfried Bony to come back to the Liberty is getting closer to completion, while Swansea remain confident of bringing in a No 10 to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson and are interested in PSV Eindhoven defender Santiago Arias.

The likes of Bony, Nacer Chadli and Arias have all been long-term targets, as were January arrivals Tom Caroll, Luciano Narsingh and Martin Olsson.

But head coach Clement was keen to make clear that no transfer deals are being thrust on him by the club’s American owners or chairman Huw Jenkins.

The 45-year-old outlined his heavy involvement in the recruitment process, and the ongoing discussions taking place in order to get in further additions by midnight on Thursday.

“I like to be involved. It is very important the club and myself work together on identifying and recruiting the right target,” said Clement.

“There is nothing worse than when, and this has not happened here but in other situations, a player just arrives and it is a case of ‘there you go, here he is’.

“It can be great and you think it’s a fantastic unexpected signing, or it can be a feeling that you don’t want him.

“It’s the worst possible situation, if a player arrives and you feel he is not the right fit and not the position you wanted.

“It’s bad for the coach, the team and the player.

“But we are not in that situation here, we are talking all the time. Myself, the chairman, the owners, about what I think we need. There is open dialogue and open communication.

Fernando Llorente celebrates scoring against West Brom

“The last window I was an influence on Martin Olsson because I had worked with him before, the others were a bit more advanced but I had to make sure I was comfortable with all of them and I did my research.

“This time we have had more time to do that due diligence.”

While Swansea are looking at further incomings, reports claim Chelsea are weighing up a £15million move for striker Fernando Llorente.

The Spaniard has yet to play this season after suffering a broken arm.
