Part of the allure if this midweek, non-conference matchup on ESPN2 has to be the presence of Mountaineers infielder JJ Wetherholt, who sits at No. 8 on MLB.com’s list of top prospects for the 2024 MLB amateur draft. Wetherholt is renowned for his left-handed bat, to the point where MLB.com says, “there some area scouts who think he’s the best amateur bat they’ve ever seen.” Wetherholt is a Pennsylvania native from Mars Area HS fighting through injuries to hit .347 in 22 games for WVU after a huge sophomore season where he hit .449 with 16 homers and 60 RBIS in 55 games.
